A Literate And Yet, An Illiterate.

My respectable readers, we are sitting here today, proudly calling ourselves literates, but that even, without knowing the true meaning behind this heavenly word.
We hold fancy degrees in our hands but deep within ourselves, we realise that they are nothing if not hollow. For our literacy standard bears a dark hole. These degrees may be from prestigious institutes but the looks mirrored in our eyes are vacant. We sit, but with our backs turned. We speak, but without morals, without etiquettes! We gaze around ourselves, but blindly. Yes, we are literates, but that is just a facade. For in this nation, literacy is purchased, not earned!
Criminals crawl the alley ways, and they are not deemed with justice. Why? I demand an answer from my leaders. How can they have the audacity to lead a country of such into despair without any honourable qualms?

What is this so called literacy that you speak of? A source which teaches us that our real dignity lies within deceiving? In murdering innocents for personal pleasure? Brutally killing young girls, daughters in the name of honour killing? Bombing religious temples, burning our own city, leading our own nation into turmoil? Is this really where are education has led us to?
This generation has become a victim of tardiness. We are dependant on others. We wait for a share of help that doesn’t belong to us. Slang language has become a pillar for a teen’s literacy level. We recite the Holy Quran, but without giving it any thought. We treat our parents like ATM cards. Our social networking holds more significance as compared to spending time with our families. We perform dishonourable deeds without having any guilt. Our pride lies in the fact that we do not require forgiveness for our sins. We are literates, yes! But that is just a shadow. An illusion, really. By the end of the day, we are humans without our humanity and literates without literacy. It is an ugly truth we have failed to recognise. Illiteracy rules our heart and unfortunately..our minds.

Drowning in an abyssal bay, where illiteracy loots
We must swim for the shore, where literacy has it’s root!
